Some folks on the Internet are apparently quite happy that the planet/Kuiper Belt object/spinning rock will be named after the television heroine, but it's not going to happen. Xena and Gabrielle are only the internal code names given to the bodies by their discoverers. The IAU won't officially approve names the objects until there's a better definition of the word "planet."

What is a planet, anyway?
This evening my wife, </a></b></a>
ladyivy, mentioned to me that there was a new planet and it was going to be called Xena. Its satellite, newly discovered, would be called Gabrielle. Now, I had no idea what she was talking about so I spoke to the Great Oracle of Google, which told me that Xena is 2003 UB313, which I did know.
